Ashley Graham is honoured to have landed her first Vogue cover.
The American model adorns the front of British Vogue’s January 2017 issue, which marks the first time a plus-size model has ever been on the cover of the British fashion glossy, according to website Fashionista.
Taking to her social media accounts to share the news, Ashley couldn’t hide her excitement.
“What an absolute honor! My first #vogue cover!! Thank you to everyone at @britishvogue! #covergirl #beautybeyondsize #liveyourdreams,” she captioned a snap of the cover on Twitter.
Shot by legendary photographer Patrick Demarchelier, the cover image is a closely cropped shot of Ashley. She stares into the camera with her brunette hair blowing around her, wearing a leather jacket with added white lace and chain detailing, and an Elvis badge sewn on to the left arm. Her make-up is kept simple, letting her natural beauty do all the talking.
The 28-year-old shared the same image on her Instagram and Facebook pages. Ashley had previously appeared in the pages of Miss Vogue in 2014.
“For 10 years I’d been told I was always going to be a catalogue girl, never a cover girl. Well, I got with IMG and did five covers in a year, boom, boom, boom. See, if you have a pretty face doors will open, but your job isn’t just to walk through them, it’s to get invited back,” she told British Vogue.
The Vogue cover is the second time Ashley, who wears a dress size 16, has made waves in the fashion industry this year (16); in February it was announced she would be appearing in Sports Illustrated’s famous Swimsuit Issue.
“It’s official – I’m a @si_swimsuit model!!” she exclaimed at the time. “This is a dream come true. Thank you to everyone who stood up for curves- our voices were heard.”
She also had a Barbie doll made in her honour recently, with the mini-me version boasting a curvier frame than conventional Barbies.
