Balenciaga designer Demna Gvasalia has drawn upon fetish fantasies in his sophomore campaign for the brand.
The Georgian fashion star joined the label in late 2015, replacing Alexander Wang as creative director, and took to the streets of Paris for his debut Balenciaga advertisements last fall (16).
This time round Gvasalia has given things a racy touch with models donning skin-tight high-heeled legging boots in lilac, pink and red, paired with pieces such as a black hooded cape. Photographer Harley Weir shot the intimate snaps in a studio with different coloured silk curtains in the background and on the floor.
“The series re-echoes the fetishistic wit which played through the collection,” the brand explained in a statement. “Inspired by the tactile, stretch-to-fit properties of Spandex, enhanced pop-florals and the house codes, such as rainwear, her photography places the Balenciaga woman in an imaginary space, a place of avant-garde pleasures.”
Lotta Volkova, who often works with Gvasalia, styled the stars of the campaign; models Sunniva Vaatevik, Alek Wek, Amandine Renard, Shujing Zhou and Litay Marcus, actress and model Carla Daher and New York artist Eliza Douglas. Both walked during the Balenciaga show in October (16).
Another hot new campaign that has dropped is Lanvin’s spring 17 ads, starring fashion legend Stella Tennant. It also marks the first campaign from new artistic director of women’s collections Bouchra Jarrar and sees Tennant striking simple poses in pieces like a sleeveless tweed biker jacket and a striped dressing gown.
Lensman Paolo Roversi helmed the photoshoot, with Jarrar describing her star as a “natural choice”.
She explained how she opted for a British model and an Italian photographer to conjure her vision of French elegance.
“Her aura, her beauty and the quiet strength she projects fit with my new image of the Lanvin woman,” the designer said of Tennant, reports WWD. “Paolo Roversi has marvellously translated this French woman’s elegance.”
