Karen Elson loves to personalise her make-up by blending different products together.
The British model, known for her signature red hair and delicate porcelain skin, has walked the runways for many top designers including Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Versace and Dior.
After working with many top make-up artists over the years, including Pat McGrath, the 37-year-old is a master of cosmetics in her own right. From make-up maven Pat, she learned to use her palms and fingertips to create a softer, more natural appearance.
“I mix everything… And I layer things to make it my own sort of personal blend,” she told Vogue.com of her signature look, adding, “A little more punk, like you could wake up and it would still look relatively okay.”
For instance, Karen has a madcap method of fusing products together completely, and she’ll add a few drops of Rodin Olio Lusso into Creme De La Mer’s The Treatment Lotion in order to thin out the texture.
She’ll also take some of Nuxe’s shimmering bronze oil and mix it with Jo Malone’s Red Roses Body Cream and By Terry foundation, to give her arms and a décolleté a little glow.
“A few drops of foundation makes it lighter, and then the body lotion makes it less oily, as well,” she explained. “It becomes more personal.”
Karen recently joined Poppy Delevingne as the latest face of the fragrance brand Jo Malone, something she is very excited about having loved and used the products for a long time. And she definitely has a favoured product from the range.
“Hands down, Jo Malone Red Roses is my scent. I love how this lingers,” she smiled.
